8-21-2008 session

Here are a few of the drawings from our recent re-opening of Hopper House Figure drawing. We debuted three new drawing benches, made with materials purchased from a generous donor. We have enough to build an additional 4, to be brought in as time allows to make them. Our model was Bobbi Golden- great as always. The posting is only allowing 3- so will post another series right away to be all-inclusive.

Sessions to start again soon!

Hello all, I have a very busy but wonderful summer, and hope you all have as well. Now, the Jazz sessions are done and our Thursday spot has opened up for figure drawing so we will begin as of this Thursday August 21 from 7:30-10 and continue weekly. I hope to see you and look forward to starting back up! I'm booking the models in the next few days, and will post this week's model. We will also revisit the design of this blog; the slideshows are fantastic but have bogged our site down. We will go back to either a single rotating slideshow or still images, so there will be no more disappointments. Looking forward to seeing you all, best, Janet

June 19th session's drawings

Our apologies for gaps and delays in posting; it's gotten quite busy and hectic for both of us. Here are a few of the sketches from last week's session... I am posting as stills for now, as Ashley has been too busy to post the slideshow. We will get that running as soon as possible. For now, stills and a list: Our participants from last week's session were as follows: Diane Churchill Barbara Alcott John Manger Jake Sokolov-Gonzalez Liz Picarai Camille Priest Lynn Vigginana Yasmin Khan Brad Bowsox Janet Hamlin It was a great group as usual, and the diversity was really wonderful to behold. I am truly enjoying these sessions. Please note that this week is our final before breaking during the Jazz series. We'll pick up again on August 21st.

A Tuesday alternative

Hello fellow figure artists, Tonight I will bring some cd's on 'drawing the figure' by Loomis, an out-of-print book that is an excellent resource. My gift to those that can make it! We will have a male model this evening, and draped female next week, and then no sessions during the jazz series. while we're on break there is a great 6-session class on pastels, Tuesday evenings- you may be interested in giving it a try. Here is the information: The Art of Pastel at RoCA starts again 7/1! In the last session we studied the work of Wayne Thiebaud , the California Colorist, and also the Synchronists who used color and shapes in Amazing ways. Pastel is one of the purest of the mediums and this class will concentrate on its unique qualities. Many great artists such as Degas and Toulouse Lautrec used pastels, either for color studies or finished pieces, We will explore the different ways to use pastels, and pastel pencils. Students will also learn how to keep the colors clean and how to layer colors. We will work on different projects in class and will learn to use pastels in new and exciting ways. All levels welcome. A materials list will be sent upon registration. Elizabeth Sayles $175 :: Seniors $165 S22 6 sessions starting Tues. July 1 6:30-9:30pm click HERE to sign up

We will pick back up the 21st and carry on our Thursday sessions from 7:30-10 once a week.
